Google Business Profile in Pakistan: How to Set It Up and Rank in Maps
Searches like "marketing agency near me" are answered by the Google map pack, and the map pack is controlled by your Google Business Profile, not by your website alone. Here is how to set one up and what actually moves it up.
What a Google Business Profile does
A Google Business Profile, previously called Google My Business, is the free listing that appears in Google Maps and in the box of three local results at the top of many searches. It shows your name, address, opening hours, phone number, photos and reviews. For service searches with local intent, such as a dentist, a lawyer or a marketing agency in a city, that box takes a large share of the clicks before anyone reaches the organic results.
Two searches show why it matters. Someone typing "digital marketing agency karachi" gets a mix of map results and websites. Someone typing the same words with "near me" gets almost entirely map results. Ranking in the second group is largely a profile question, which is why on-page SEO alone cannot win it.
Check you are eligible
Google only allows a profile for a business that has face to face contact with customers, either at a location or by travelling to them. The rules that catch people out:
- A real address is required for a storefront or office. A genuine shared or serviced office can qualify if your staff are there during stated hours. A mailbox, a virtual office with no staff, or an address you do not occupy does not qualify and can lead to suspension
- Service area businesses can hide the address. If you visit customers rather than receive them, you can list the areas you serve and keep your home address private
- Use your real name. Adding keywords or a city to the business name breaks Google's guidelines and is one of the commonest reasons for suspension
Check the current guidelines on Google's own help pages before applying, since the rules are updated periodically.
Set it up properly
The setup steps are short, but the details decide how well the profile performs:
- Choose the primary category carefully. It is the strongest relevance signal on the profile. Pick the most specific option that describes the main service, then add secondary categories for the rest
- Add every service you offer with a short description of each, written for customers rather than stuffed with keywords
- Fill in hours, phone, website and the appointment link. Keep holiday hours updated, especially around Eid, since wrong hours cause bad reviews
- Upload real photos. The team, the office, the work. Profiles with genuine photos look more trustworthy than empty ones
- Verify. Google offers verification by phone, email, video or postcard depending on the business. Follow whichever it offers and keep the process under your own account, not an agency's
What drives local rankings
Google describes three factors for local results: relevance, distance and prominence. You cannot change distance, since it depends on where the searcher is. The other two are where the work is.
Relevance
Category choice, services listed and the wording on your website all tell Google what you do. Make sure your website has a page for each service and each city you cover, and that the profile links to the right one.
Prominence
Prominence is how well known and trusted you are. Reviews carry a lot of weight here, in number, recency and the quality of what they say. Mentions across the web, links to your site and a consistent name, address and phone number across directories also help. A mismatch between listings, such as an old phone number on one directory, weakens the signal.
Reviews without breaking the rules
Ask every satisfied customer, at the moment they are happiest, with a direct link to your review form. Make it easy: send the link by message right after delivering the result. Reply to every review, positive or negative, politely and specifically. A calm reply to a bad review reads well to the next customer.
Do not buy reviews, offer rewards in return for them, or ask only happy customers while screening out others. Google removes reviews that look manipulated and can penalise the profile. A steady trickle of genuine reviews beats a sudden burst every time.
Connect the profile to your website
Your website and profile support each other. Add a clear contact block with the same name, address and phone number, embed the map, and use local business schema so search engines can read those details. Create a landing page for each city you serve, with real content about that market rather than a copy of the home page. Our SEO services in Pakistan work covers this, and our city pages for Lahore, Karachi and Islamabad show the structure we use.
